I can't believe no-one is interested in this. This is an effort thats been going on since the thought of space travel.

I am interested - I have been to the site of the development of the beagle project - but I would not use thesun as a reliable source - I find it very funny that this sort of information is on their website... They are infamous in the UK for being a tabloid/soft-duh paper and often boast to having the highest nipple count. They are most famous for Page 3 - which if you asked almost anyone in the uk what page 3 is they would know, and you would not need to mention it was page 3 in the Sun.

Space exploration is possible my favorite part of science.
It tries to answer hard questions, and in the process usually ends up creating more hard/interesting questions.
Unfortunately, this type of research is expensive and slow.. but so much progress has been made in the last 50yrs..
